Damaged SL-M740

Dirt Disciple
I have a left hand xt shifter and there is a plastic cover missing off the back. I thought I could just tape it up carefully with some gafa or something but I don't if it's just the tape I am using but nothing sticks to the stupid thing! Should it be sticking? And if not, any suggestions as to what I could do to cover up the whole. Don't want dirt etc getting into it

i would suggest sticking a wanted advert up in the wanted section. May be a few folk kicking about with knackered sets that may donate a cover. just dont loose the tiny screws! or the barrel.. took me an age to find spare one of those.

I guess you mean the tiny screws, as in the one that is clearly there in the right hand hole but is missing in the left hand one?

yeah and guess thats why the covers gone a walkabout. just a pain to find screws that tiny and short.

other than looking tidy I wouldn't worry.
the shifter is quite sealed and all that is on the top is the cable pull part.
if you take it off you can give it a quick clean up.
they are on many other shifters at that time, possibly in different colours though.

try sticking the part code in Google and see if petra etc. pick it up.

i would have a go at making a cover from an old coke can - if you plan it right, you can even get a bit of curve, then paint and some glue or sealant to cover up the gap.

what size are thos screws? I have a few M2 in stainless should you need one ... but those look bigger.
