Dalby Red Route- Modern or Retro??

Dr S

Old School Grand Master
Eyup,
Me and a few of the lads are going down to Dalby next weekend to do the red route. Just wondering how rough it is and which steed to take??
Three options; PACE RC100, light as a feather but fully rigid. FAT SAB- light and full sus but not much travel and possibly fragile and I don't want to wreck it or my On-One Inbred, big and burly with a 5" fork but weighs much more. Its 24miles and a lighter bike will be easier on a not too fit rider. What do you think?? Also flats or spuds??
I will also be playing 'Dad', some of my mates haven't riden for a few years (although pretty fit) so how much gear shall I take for repairs, maintainance of 5-6 bikes etc.??

Cheers
Si

Can't believe you come over to my "hood" and 'dis my trails when I'm not around

I'll be over in on the West coast of Scotland riding a few of the 7 Stanes otherwise I would have joined you

Usually rattle round it on anything from a totally rigid single speed 29'er to a 6" travel Maverick

Front section to Dixon's hollow is a little worn and consquently a bit bumpy/rough, Riggs are more "flowy" but again a little rough in places

If you intend doing the whole 25 miles I would take somethnig with a little travel/comfort but you will be fine on most things

Cheers Gil.
Planning on doing as much as possible but will see..... might chop bits out depending how everyone copes but curtainly doing the route up to Dixons and I hear good things about the Dales and Riggs section (I rolled the rally car up there two years back and had plenty of time for a walk around).
Glad you're out of town- didn't want you turning up and making me look like a fat unfit mess in front of my buddies
Are you about on Sat night?? We're going to the Duck for a few light ales and a pie or six.

Si

Ps. you still haven't billed me for that last batch of decals sunshine

Not even Sat night

Setting sail for Kippford late Friday afternoon and aiming to do a night ride at Dalbeattie when we get there :?

If I was you I would miss the front section and start from Dixon's hollow, you are not as knackered for the better bits of trail that way and the routes are not as busy

Also means you can stop at the Cafe in Low Dalby for a snack before riding the last bit back to Dixon's ~ or leave the slower guys at the cafe and fitter rider goes and gets cars ~ just a thought

Yup, start from Dixons Hollow*, you'll be able to laugh/cringe at the n00bs/families trying the skills area, usually without helmets & possibly wearing flip flops

* as GilM says, you won't be so knackered for the good stuff if you start there.

Edit, woo 300 posts!
