cycling in cold weather

What you need is one of those balaclavas with sleeves.

Just don't pop into the local corner shop carrying your pump – people might get the wrong impression.

Best thing I've found for keeping warm during those cold winter morning trips to work is a car – it has a heater, music, comfy seats need I go on?? Not in the spirit of this thread I know but couldn't help myself

I'll get my coat

I use a 'mountain equipment' Polartec Gortex balaclava ,its a full face cover with just the eyes showing,i've used a hot needle to create better breathing holes as i found hard to get a good breath through the g/tex and it helps prevents moisture building up
Keeps your whole head warm as toast :D

Forgot to mention - I was wearing my defeet woolie boolie socks, and overshoes over my, err, shoes...

Just ordered some goretex boots :D They'd better be worth it!

I made the mistake of not wearing gloves when i went on an absolute epic yesterday, was ok until it got dark. for the last 3 odd miles i thought i was gonna die, had to take my socks off and use them as gloves whilst the rain came down aswell. Had to navigate my way through a load of bulls on the hills after that so went the hardcore way down instead and stacked it due to socks as gloves...

Nice warm bath later and I was back to life.

FEET... I Hate my feet being cold... and after riding for years, I treated myself to some shimano winter gore-tex boots...Brilliant ...no more cold feet...highly recommended... :)

I went for the Lake ones as I find the Shimanos too narrow. Found out that I had to go up a size to fit a thick sock in them. Yes, they do look like something that Herman Munster would wear but they do the job and that's all I care about really.

You were wearing your socks over your shoes! Is that some sort of superhero type thing?  :P

I'm living in Minnesota, so it's probably colder than for most but I just bought myself a pair of Lake winter riding shoes. I was having problems with me tootsies staying warm, hopefully that will no longer be the case, but I haven't had to wear them yet.

I ride to work when it's -30C. That said, it's only a mile so it actually takes longer getting dressed and undressed and into my work clothes than it does for the actual riding part. Might get myself a pair of studded tires this winter.
