Current Prices - Retro Wheels

I have just paid £150 for some NOS Mavic Open 4CD rims with C-Record Hubs, 7 speed Maillard freewheel with brand new Michelin tyres.

I didn't want to spend that much, but haven't seen a set of wheels of that quality and condition at a price like that in a long time, and I was desperate for something like them.

Question - what do people think of that price?

Decent price at the moment I'd suggest. I've done the rims / hubs / get them built route and it's expensive - those components bought individually would cost you double what you paid so I'd say good deal.

No mate, I was just struggling with my own conscience spending £150 on some wheels!!

Will be on the Mercian when the wheels come!! Also just got some black hoods for it and brown Brooks leather bar tape. Will try and get it done over the weekend, hopefully it will improve the look of it a bit.

Ah, I see what you're saying.

You get what you pay for with wheels - the way I see it is why are they being sold? generally because the hubs are rough or the rims are worn. Hence, £150 is decent i'd suggest if you've got new rims, classic pair of hubs plus new tyres!

Not sure there's much to improve on your Mercian to be honest!

for the wheels you describe, that sounds like a great price, if they're in decent condition. I look at it this way - you just bought what was the best of the best a few (ok, 20!) years ago, for less than what all except the very cheap modern wheels go for. I bet yours look and ride a lot better than modern ones too :)

Well, if they are genuine C-Record and really NOS then yes, a very fair price indeed. However, if they are lesser Campagnolo range sold as C-Record (a lot of sellers do it) then potentially the deal could just be very ordinary.
