Ain't overtightening a bitch? These are HS33 20th Anniversary jobbies, cracked the clamp on the left lever when fitting to new bars. New part can be bought from Klaus (Here) but at €62.90 + shipping, that ain't going to happen (I bought the whole lot here for less than that).

Can this be welded or bonded? Seems a shame to throw the whole thing away but the clamp is forged with the brake unit.

Any ideas of how best to proceed appreciated!

Have you tried a flattering email to Magura telling them how amazing their products are and how heartbroken you are that this has happened?

I find this approach often gets results, even out of warranty. Most people write to complain and can be pretty rude in doing so, something with a bit of humanity can work wonders...

I don't think a repair is the way to go. It'll be a compromise and could let loose when your grabbing a handful. Have you had a look at the Magura forums? What about some of the trials bike sites. Theres a particularly good shop whose name escapes me that hold all manner of spares.

I tried the Magura forums; there was a bloke with exactly the same set I had and their advice to him was:

Right lever unit for the HS33 20th anniversary has reference 0722574 (0722573 for the left lever). I don't know about availability though.

You should tighten your lever very lightly, so that in case of a crash, the unit will rotate around the handlebar instead of breaking down ;)

Now they tell me. It's not that I want them effers tightened to bar-crushing pressure; but having the unit being able to rotate does not seem entirely safe, especially over a descending rock garden or such.

I'll keep looking.

they mean just snug enough so it doesnt rotate in use but a hefty clout from a fall would spin the lever around..
