I'm a bit annoyed. But do I have the right to be? I'm not sure if I'm annoyed about him selling it, or annoyed about him not telling me.
What do you think?

At the end of the day it's just some old bike parts, no one's dies. Ultimately if he wants to live his life that way then let him.
You've been charitable giving him the things and in so doing have relinquished all control. It is possible that the guy is utterly skint, needs the funds and is too embarassed to ask for help. He may well be mortified that you've sussed him out and his financial circumstances. On the other hand he could just be a git.
Chris just rise above it, be satisfied that you did a good thing donating some surplus bike bits to a friend.
