Conundrum

Old School Grand Master
My friend, without telling me, appears to be Ebaying some of the bike stuff I gave him for free.

I'm a bit annoyed. But do I have the right to be? I'm not sure if I'm annoyed about him selling it, or annoyed about him not telling me.

What do you think?

bid on it... make sure you win, then dont pay him !!

id be annoyed aswell, but if you give someone something then... i surpose they can do what they want with it. but they should have asked you if you wanted it back or if you minded if they sold it...

personally i think that's crap. if you give someone something and they don't want it they should offer it back or atleast ask you if you mind them flogging it.

but then my attitude is based on when my (useless) brother got his bike nicked so i sold him one of my kinesis maxlight frames very cheaply, then lent him an almost new modern p2 fork, avid v's deore sti's, mechs, tyres, tubes, bar/stem/post/saddle, then i got some wheels and a chainset from the shop i worked at for him.

this was all done so he could ride to work and was on the understanding he would give back the bits as he then upgraded back to xt as his previous bike was xt.

i never received any money for the frame (it was agreed he would pay when he could) and then 3 months later i saw the bike being ridden by his mate (some one who had 3 bikes stolen previously) he told me that my brother had swapped the bike for a flat screen TV, i asked my brother if he was gonna pay me for the parts that i had lent him bearing in mind he had effectively sold the bike with my parts on it, he insisted that i had given them to him.

never got any money from him at all. it's one of the main reasons we now don't get on at all, as i consider him a thief.

At the end of the day it's just some old bike parts, no one's dies. Ultimately if he wants to live his life that way then let him.

You've been charitable giving him the things and in so doing have relinquished all control. It is possible that the guy is utterly skint, needs the funds and is too embarassed to ask for help. He may well be mortified that you've sussed him out and his financial circumstances. On the other hand he could just be a git.

Chris just rise above it, be satisfied that you did a good thing donating some surplus bike bits to a friend.

I have to admit having built a mate a complete running bike apart from his frame and forks , with parts in my garage ,I would be VERY annoyed if he sold it without offering me parts back but to be fair I doubt he would even think of doing it.

x3 Also how would he react if you did that to some thing he gave you??

you didn't want the stuff

he at least should have offered you it back as a courtesy before selling it

lesson learned

been there before. it is annoying but i guess you gave it to himso its no longer yours- thats how i dealt with it.

still grates though
