Me and my gf are considing putting in an offer on a house that doesnt have mains gas supply - it does have a gas tank at the end of the garden. Other than it wont be as cheap as mains gas, what's peoples opinion and experience of this?

Induction hob and electric oven but gas central heating
Have a look if electric boilers are any good now.

I looked 8 years ago when fitting central heating to my house and things didn't seem too bad.

The only reason gas was used as it was cheaper, now who knows?

My grandma lives happily in an oil tank fueled house.

I have no mains gas supply and it's never really been a problem...Think Electric fan oven, oil fueled combi boiler/heating and a woodburning stove, also shop around and stock up on oil during the summer when prices are cheaper.

Re:

If you have the space, seriously consider biomass as a fuel for heating... look up the RHI scheme for payments you could earn (domestic has just started) and The Green Deal for installation cost support.

I've installed a 200kw system at work last year, and we have a 5 year payback on the install costs through total payments earned and other reduced costs

I have no mains gas, I do try every time British Gas come calling to supply electricity to agree to it only when they pipe me gas but to no avail. We use cylinders for cooking, cheaper by half than electricity, for that at least, coal for heating and electricity for lighting and water in summer, but I think our energy costs are quite pricey to be honest, but I'd rather live here and pay it than live in the city and not.

Sorry not a lot of help really

See if any of the neighbours use the same set up, as you set up better deals, my brother's last place was oil fired and he set up an account with the local supplier and paid a monthly debit and it works out cheaper as summer time you obviously use less than buying when you need it, also check on boilerjuice as they may list lpg prices too. If the tank has remotevlevel reading then most suppliers will top up without you having to call.
