Computer problems windows 10

I'm currently staying at my exe's place for a week to flat & cat sit whilst she is away. I asked if her laptop was staying she said yes so I left mine at home.

When I got here she told me she had tried to load windows 10 onto her windows 7 laptop and now she gets no sound at all or at best for you tube and other sound applications, it lasts about 1 and a half minutes then goes silent. No sound what so ever. If I leave you tube then start again the same issue again, a few minutes then no sound.

I tried the suggested fixes of playback devices speakers and advanced to change the ratings again to no avail.

I will add it also caused enough problems in Norton that she ended up removing windows 10 and Norton and having to reload Norton

still no sound though, any ideas?

Ditching Windows 10 and reverting to 7 was certainly the best thing possible to do. Having got that out of the way, you'll need to check the reason for no sound... if you go to the control panel and device manager you should be able to see the sound devices listed - check that there are no exclamation marks or other warnings beside them.

Open every mixer or volume control you can find to check that levels are OK; if all is in order you may need to download different drivers for your sound device (though Windows ought to have reverted things to their original state it often doesn't.) What kind of computer is it? Make / model ?

Edit - it's not got Skype or similar installed does it? Sometimes applications like that take control of your sound settings and mess with them behind your back...

Thanks for the reply

I updated every driver I could find and the same thing, it goes on the music for a while then nothing. It's a Toshiba satellite L750/L755

Of interest I went onto the speaker at the bottom right, right clicked play back devices and the sound came back on momentarily until I select another page or search then it goes off again. Very weird.

Re:

Check all windows updates are applied. I've had this problem in XP, 7 before. Think I just removed the drivers and let it install its default ones back then. No doubt similar now.

Remove any installation from the installed programs.
Reboot.
Remove any adaptor in device manager. Reboot ...

Norton was probably the cause of Norton cocking up. Usual is/was especially if not updated.to be compatible with the newer OS.

Nowt wrong with wi does 10, then there was nowt wrong with 8.1 or 7. Just 10 is much nicer to use than 7. (I still preferred 8.1 start screen). They did implement some of my feedback suggestions though, luckily I guess others must have asked the same in feedback (insiders)

As far as I'm concerned there's lots wrong with Windows 10, and I'm surprised they released when they did. No-option enforced "updates" which are also now going to be undocumented... the ridiculous amount of "telemetry" going on, etc. The UI is still a dog's dinner and confuses users, less than 8 did but still messy.

As an upgrade from 8/8.1 I suppose it's six and half a dozen, but from 7? There's nothing whatsoever to gain aside from bother.

Sound problems are probably the most common "obvious" issues I'm coming across with people upgrading to 10 (the upgrade wiping out Documents folder etc are less common but are happening) - not sure why sound drivers in particular should be so problematic.

Re:

Did all as suggested and no Skype on the laptop but still the issue.

I did notice when the sound goes as mentioned I went into the speaker/volume icon and infront of me is a box with 4 tabs one is playback and the other is recording.

When the sound fails I will click on either of those two tabs then I get the sound back for about 15 seconds then it goes again so I click on the other tab and the same thing again so I am ping ponging between these two tabs to keep the sound going

Sounds like something else is interfering, see what processes are running and if any of them are volume related.

Mate had a similar problem a few weeks ago, was one of those daft CD ROM albums, it'd downloaded some app that wanted to control the volume.

And my win 10 installation is fine and dandy. Far better than the 7 and 8.1 it replaced.

Re:

You could try
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/wind ... #v1h=tab03

Then after that if still not working try asking Microsoft, there is a built in live chat to get support where they may be able to get a lot more help to you.

Without it in front of me the most around it can be quite hard to diagnose.

Could be a little tick box or something, might not be.

Luckily none I've had the please to do have had any problems with win10.

It's not a polished product though but then it'll change a bit as time goes by which should tidy it up.

Re:

She's had computers long enough to know you never load Microsoft new products when they first come out so she can sort it out when she comes back :D

I will try the online support as the link was for 10 and support has stopped for 7 even though it is 10 that has caused the issues with 7

I knew I should have brought my chromebook with me.

Thanks for the help offered thought gents
