Clean up advice

I'm trying to restore my DBR wcf 6.1 at the moment and the area I foresee being the biggest issue is the paintwork.

Number one is the adhesive reside all over it from from some ill-advised stickering I performed on it many moons ago. Does anyone know of a method for removing this kind of glue that isn't going to bugger up the lacquer any further than it already is.

Secondly the lacquer itself is in a pretty poor state, as is some of the paintwork (mainly on the seatstays). I think I'm going to rub down the chips on the rear of the bike and touch up the paint, it's steel and seems pretty much ok. The front triangle however is carbon, and while the paint is ok apart from a couple of very small chips, the lacquer is scratched to buggery and is utterly filthy and I just can't seem to get it clean. Does anyone have a secret method I might try or does anyone have any advice on stripping and repainting carbon tubes?

The frame is identical to this, but the forks are white answer manitou SX with red text, '97 I think

Cheers in advance chaps.

hairdryer to warm the stickers before peeling, metal polish on a rag will disolve any residue......

Or simply try WD40 or GT85. This will often disolve or at least soften the residue. Or as feetabix says, warm it then spray it.

White spirt, works great on sticky stuff and shouldn't harm any oe finish. I use it on loads of stuff and never had any issues :-) I even use it as a tar remover on the car.

WD :-)

be carefull with the wd40/gt85. i remember hearing tales of raleigh/alan/look bonded frames+gt/wd=not bonded frames. and werent the wcf frames bonded?

White spirit does work great on the sticky residue. As for the lacquer I used some wet n dry sanding sheets, and sanded the frame back to the paint work. Touched up the chipped paint. Then used some ultrafine paint renovator and had it resprayed with the lacquer. looks great :) plus use a tack cloth on the paint work before you lacquer.
