Claud Butler Spectre 531 frame £cheap…

It’s definitely 1992. Only year it was offered in Grello.
Quality 531, same frame wheels etc as the top of the range Cape, just with the LX group rather than DX
I think they ride just fine TBH
Three sizes; 16, 18 & 20. Both 16 & 18 have the same head tube size and without the rear wheel in it’s difficult to judge. But I’d say the gap between the rear bridge and seat cluster looks real close so my best guess is the smallest 16” version.
If it had been the 18 or 20 I think it would be on its way to @legrandefromage by now.
He had one as a lad so he may be able to advise better on how well it performed?

BTW the weights stated on the models were BS for some odd sales reason I guess.
The top of the range Antaeus with Marzocci shocks is about 30lb (mine actually weighs in at 29.2lbs) and the next inline Cape weighs a little less at 29lbs as it has no shocks, but the catalogue has all of the rest of the range including the Cape as heavier, all 30+

I think this is either lazy editing or some sort sales ploy to make the 653 tubed Antaeus better. Which is odd, as the tubing, shock, XT and Flite saddle all put it in a different league anyway.

hmmm, well it was more nostalgia on my part, riding one was ok but nothing too exciting

I got mine in late 91 after an insurance payout for a previous bike after that was stolen. It ended up with Rock Shox MAG20, XT rapidfire+ XT spd, LX cranks, AT50 cantilevers (cos they were shiny) and a campy OR rear mech - I didnt care that it didnt shift right!
