Claud Butler "Pagan?" unknown mountain model

Help wanted identifying model/age please,
Best guess is a "Pagan"? Unfortunately paint is partially scraped off at the model name point, can still pretty much tell it says Pagan.
Logo/Paint job different to other Pagans I've seen, guessing its pre-90s.
Extremely nice ride considering age, appears to be very well maintained according to man at local bike shop (a CB specialist), any help would be much appreciated,
ta

Re: Claud Butler "Pagan"

Thanks a lot, really interesting reading that, can you remember if the Pagan was considered entry level price wise?

Rides so much better than my previous, really happy with it,
cheers

Entry level? I would've thought so with Exage Country components and Reynolds 500 tubing. Probably retailed for around £300 - £350.
Still a good quality bike though.

I'm a bit concerned about the extreme chain crossover on the catalogue photo. Torturing rear mechs just isn't cricket.
Also like the fact that 20" is the smallest size available.

My Spectre was £373 and my brother had a £340 Spirit, roughly equal to the Banshee... So the entry level Pagan must have been around £300. Pretty rare bikes, I've only seen about five 1989 models on eBay in years.

I miss the ride of my Spectre. The large road-bike design and skinny tubing/forks all made for a very soft ride :)
