ciocc commuter conversion - how old?

Hi there, ive recently bought this bike, an old Coicc frame from the 80's I presume??
I bought it off an Italian guy who bought it over with him from Italy a couple of years ago. He had used it as his commuter for 2 years (the flat bars were on it when I bought it!!) He himself bought it off an elderly Italian gent who according to him rarely used it.

Once i had cleaned 2 years of road grime off the frame and components it actually came out quite nice, forks are pretty scratched but there is no serious corrosion. the paint work isnt too bad on the frame either and the gears work perfectly.

Ive taken it out for a couple of rides now and absolutely love it - however i cant help thinking that it should really have some drops put back on it!

All i have done to it is add some spare tyres i had and put some new matching grips on.

The only original parts as far as i can work out are the campag front and rear mechs and the front wheel (campag hub)

My knowledge or road bikes only goes back to about the early 90's and even then its not that great, I jist wondered if anyone out there had any idea how old this bike could be and also what type of steel it is made from. Any info/ comments would be appreciated.

certainly an 80's frame from the design. I first came across CIOCC frames in the 70's as the Milk Race Riders had them from Poland. We called them Chhhheeock which I now know is wrong and should be pronounced church LOL

They were really quite well made with the odd bit off engraving / panto work. Not sure what Ciocc did later but that looks like a generic 80's frame with some ciocc decals?

Drop an email to Giovanni Pelizzoli with a piccie and a frame number if you have one - he built them, so is best placed to know if it's genuine. The poor brazing on the front fork drop-out suggests it's not a premium quality frame.

Thanks for the info ill send him an email - TBH i only paid £50 quid for it and its a nice bike for riding around on so I am quite happy with it whether its genuine or not!

The poor mans Colnago, as they were known, probably a back handed compliment, they have always been top quality hand built Italian bikes. As monty dog posted above Giovanni Pelizzoli is the man to talk to or his son, he was very helpful shedding some light on the San Crisobal I have. Giovanni sold CIOCC (Church) in 1980 but continues to build his PELLIZOLI bikes. As far as I'm aware all their CIOCC frames are Columbus tubing. Great buy at £50
