Chris King Headset Removal - What's best?

I've got a Chris King Headset (my first one, yay!) which I want to transfer from one GT Zaskar frame to another. I've read that CK headsets can be trickier to remove/install because of the super-close tolerance, so I wondered whether anyone could tell me the best way to remove one without damaging either the headset or the inside of the head tube on the frame. Previous headset removals have been done with the aid of a 'persuader' (aka. mallet) and either a long bit of stout wood, a metal rod or a long screwdriver (depending on whether the headset is to be kept or not!).

I've seen one of THESE on CRC and wondered whether they were worth the investment, or whether I could use a socket extension instead (as has been suggested in the product reviews).

For reinstalling the headset I'll either be investing in a proper tool, like THIS ONE (I can't afford the Park Tools one!), or I'll be taking the frame and headset over to my grandparents' farm and making good use of my granddad's woodwork vice which has served me well for installing headsets previously (just never a CK one).

Thoughts anyone? I'm more interested in the removal of the headset without causing any damage.

Thanks :)

I have one of those removers and would certainly recommend them. You can make similar using a bit of copper tube, but this will last longer and the weight is a massive advantage for shifting tighter cups.

As for putting them back in, I use a home made press. Although I have often thought I should make a better one.

I got a park one off ebay, and a ice one. excellent for removing without damage wouldn't be without my unior headset press either. If anyone is local and needs to put a headset in feel free to pop in and use mine

Worth the money.

Definitely use a remover if you can get your hands on one. I've used an old seatpost and a mallet to get one out (but it wasn't a CK).

My homemade press made from a thick threaded rod, nuts, and washers works great for installations every time.

As Rumpfy has said for removal, worth every penny.

I've used a woodworkers vice before with no problem, installed a few king headsets that way. Take you time
