Yup, will vouch for that. Sainsbury's Basics mixed fruit stuff is particularly nasty, far too jelly-like. Probably the stuff they use in mass-production bakeries for filling biscuits [1], only put into jars for sale to Joe Public instead.

I buy the stuff out of LIDL with the higher fruit content.

My mum makes lots so soon there will be that too, last years is all gone! :)

I'd leave that up to the maternal parent.... informed choices and all that..
 
I make quick jam every so often...

Sterilise a heavy glass or jar, almost fill it with 50/50 fruit and sugar and microwave until it is mush and boils for a bit, allow to cool and stick in fridge, takes 5/10 minutes and keeps for a few weeks.
