Any ingenious ideas for cleaning the thread on a new frame? Got a bit of paint and there was a wee bit of swarf there, bikes shops are charging around £15 for a chase and face.

tbh i wouldn't risk it. £15 is better than no frame. also if they bugger it up then they are insured to replace your frame.

Have in the past used the old cups from a cup and cone type bottom bracket. You need to grind grooves down the threads of the cups to act like the flutes of a tap. The old cups will also be fairly hard so are more than up to the job of cleaning up a thread.

Don't attempt this unless you are 100% confident in your ability to feel your way in and not crossthread the things. If in doubt take it to the bike shop, you'll be gutted if you wreck your frame.

+1 for the above method.

If I'm right they're made from hardened steel and do a great job once you've made the grooves.

I'll stick to caution methinks, this included facing and it is for an external BB so it should be money well spent. Need to control my new bike keeness.
