Hi I am rebulliding a 500lx chainset (again - long story) and its getting on me tits!

1) it came with 5 washers, do these go in-between biggest ring and crank. and why? the gap looks too wide now
2) cant find a reasonable tool/wide blade screwdriver for holding back side of bolts. bums! is there a knack?

thanks

 :)

The thin washers appear every now and then. You'll find they are not in the Shimano service documentation. I think that they were part of a rework process in the factory.

Anyway, usually you will find that the chainset will still work fine without them.

As for the back nuts, normally the chainring bolts will self tighten and you won't need a screwdriver blade thingy. Just tighten it up with the Allen bolt.

Ah, well my bolts are a bit shafted then.

Before I had my Rock-Ring on, didn't use the washers, then today i got the front mech thru the post so fitted that and of course now it won't get into top gear so took it off! Now the bolts are rubbish if used without all that width so long new bolts needed Ideally in Gold so I can fit the rock ring, any ideas which? where?

Thanks you :D

if they're about 1mm thick and would take a chainring bolt through them, they're used to correctly space the middle ring and go between the ring and the back side of the spider.
