Recommendations please. What do you guys use for 6 and 7 speed restorations? Do you look for NOS Regina or Sedis and pay through the nose? Or do you fir a modern equivalent

Thanks in advance
John

I've had an oversupply of 9spd Sram chains have been using them left right and centre. The only time they didnt really work was with the bigger teeth on a French threaded freewheel of which brand escapes me.

Oui.

Over the long years I've found that chamfered chains had always worked much better than their early counterparts especially with old Uniglide and Sachs stuff. So a modern off-the shelf chain works just about as good as anything did from the last 30 years.

I'm with LGF - any modern chain, similarly my experience is that SRAM last better than most.

Unless you are the retro-obsessive type who come up and says (in a nasal voice) 'nice build but I think you will find that year Campagnolo used green grease in their hubs, whereas your appears to be white'

I'm not that fussed no... although I can see that there must be some satisfaction in finding the exact period cables and outers if you want all the details to be perfect. I have to admit though to having bought NOS Alfredo Binda straps and Benotto white ribbon.... and I would like some Campag special grease lol
