The rings on my STX bolt on in this way. The outer to the middle then the middle ring bolts onto the crank with the inner. In other words the crank has no mount for the outer ring. I want to use the rings on a LX crank, can this be done. :?

that crank is ATB 110 BCD, your STX is compact drive 94BCD
Is this crank an oddball one then?
No don't think so. Just a different size. so wont fit. Oh the joy of standardization

the cranks are slightly oddball too

the top ring may fit a standard compact drive chainset, but i doubt the middle would

On STX for one year (?1994 or 95 if I remember right) they did the strange thing with the inner attached to the middle. You will also find that it is 95mm PCD not 94mm. Nasty.

Pace made a lovely cnced adapter that allowed you to use 94bcd rings on an stx crankset. Can't find a pic but I'm sure someone on here will be able to find one. IIRC it actually made a stronger and lighter crank than the equivelent XT one of the time.
