Ok - some advice needed.

Bought a new car and am having a removable tow bar fitted, mainly to be able to fit a tow bar mounted rack as Im sick of naff boot mounted racks.

Anyone using a rack they really rate?

Quite like the look of the Twinny Ergo racks as serious pieces of rack kit...

try pendle (used to sell them at a shop i worked in and they were fine) and i can't remember the brand name but fisher outdoor do some good ones, pendle are direct and easy to self fit but i haven't fitted the others.

most bike shops won't want to help you fit them though, the association of cycle traders (ACT) have advised shops not to do it for legal reasons of liability.

try a tow bar specialist though, i assume a main dealer is fitting the tow ball? it's usually better if they do as it's their own. but for the accesories a specialist is better.

also check the safe working load of the tow ball, there's a difference between towing and hanging weight on the ball, balls are designed to pull weight not neccesarily to hang weight on.

hope that helps! :)

Cheers....was looking at pendle as well...

So what do most people here use? Tow bar or boot mounted?

ever since using boot racks and royally fudging up paintwork on bikes and car i switched to roof bars, thule. best decision ever, don't ever tow so it was the right coice for me and i like that the bikes don't touch at all.

think they look cool up there aswel, especially when you catch another biker staring at them in the traffic with a jealous look on their face!! :D

I just pop the front wheel and throw it in the back (Astra Mk4)...ti's ok for one bike and a bit of kit.

Thule T2 on 1 1/4" hitch - from klunker to FSB it holds them all.

Lightning fast on-off too, drop bike in, ratchet the arm down...done while the rest of the riders are taking off their wheels.
