car issue?

Bad luck - try and prove it if you can

Local Mitsubishi dealer here managed to get two oil feed pipes the wrong way round during warranty work resulting in a lunched engine.

Oh the joys of car ownership.

Get an old boring Toyota Corolla.Ive got an 04 with intergalactic miles and the only time its been in the garage is for routine servicing and consumables.Has never missed a beat and undoubtedly wont go wrong for another 10 years at least. My take on an old saying-"Life happens when you are too busy mending your car and worried about reliability/fuel consumption".

Re:

I've had some bad news from the garage, they've taken the casing off to get at the clutch and discovered that there is an oil leak coming on from the gear box (which was causing the slipping). They asked if I've had the gearbox out recently as they think the seal could have been damaged at that time

Some years ago I had slipping clutch in a Golf for the same reason, leaky seal and oil contaminating the clutch plates. I don't remember it being particularly expensive to fix, £130.00 I think, for a new oil seal and a new clutch, but it was a while back and it may be that it's an easier job on some cars.
