Cannondale topstone

I can understand that some roadies might be more comfortable with a 'gravel bike' because they are used to the old fashioned geometry but I can't see any situation where a mountain bike isn't a better option

Re:

Very nice, and is that an Alpkit fuel pod?
What are your plans for it? Riding wise?

On fast gravel roads?

Tow paths and forest fire roads is about it in the UK - is that enough to justify buying one (open question)

Btw what’s happened to Cannondale they used to be bright and brash - in your face loud, they’ve sold out and gone all vanilla like all the other modern brands you see in Evans and Leisure lakes etc at least it’s not Matt black but still dull looking by comparison with the late 90’s early 2000’s

Re:

Only the person buying one can answer whether it’s worth it or not. I’ve bought one as I’ve got many miles of gravel 1 minute from my door.

Same as saying a road bike is only fast on the road.

A hardtail mtb can do any job but isn’t the best tool for every job. Plus now they are too slack and long for riding 50 miles on gravel. This is why a gravel bike appeals

....

I'd say yea if that's your preference. As a more peaceful alternative to road riding I'd be gunning for a gravel bike.

Definitely something I'd like to own but there's a few other priorities on the n+1 before a gravel bike for myself.

As an aside I think if I lived in the America's a gravel bike would be second to a modern full sus to blitz logging roads and their trail network.

Re:

I’ve been using a 2012 flash carbon as basically a gravel bike for 8 years. It only ever did gravel so I’ve bought a proper gravel bike. I live close to gravel where I can ride all day if needed so I go there quite a bit as it’s easy. Not a massive fan of road riding and proper mtb is a short drive to the peaks or a 8 mile ride before the good bits.

Currently the running a full sus trail/enduro , a long travel hardtail , road bike and a gravel. It suits any ride and if one bike is broken I can use another for the same ride.
