can you buy a standard qr to match a front maxle

Another tasty looking bike. Might give that a go if it all annoys me too much.

So how does a maxle work and how are they constructed? Found a few pics online that suggest they are just a standard qr skewer housed in a wider body somehow.

As this is alien to me, how does it all bolt together?
