Can someone help me with this shiny pair?

Whilst having a clear-out recently I came across this pair of Italian beauties. I can't remember when I bought them but now I have a Dyna-Tech MT5 MMC frame coming-my-way I'd like to know if I can use them on the build.

I know they are Campagnolo but I haven't a clue what Groupo they where from (road or ATB). They are for 36 hole rims and the wording around the centre of the rear hub reads "British - 1.370 x 24 tpi BSC". Now I am no mechanic but the rear hub looks like it may be 'missing' something for the freewheel to fit on...am I right? I'd like to be able to use these well-built Italian sweeties on a machine so any information and help would be gratefully received.

If it's not feasible to get these roadworthy then I may have to sell them to get something (less sparkly) that I can use.

No, that's how they should be. They use a screw on freewheel instead of the more modern cassette fitting. Trying to find a decent freewheel may be a bit hard. The most well known make that does a good 8 speed freewheel is Sachs.

I don't know about any others but someone else on here may know more.

Hi,

They look exactly like my Euclids.

A Shimano freewheel is available from 13-28 ...and also 12-28 on special request - overhere. 7 speed and with HyperGlide. There also exist the mega-range ones, but you don't want those. Sets you back 12 or 13 euros.

A guy on UK ebay was selling Suntour freewheels a while ago. No idea whether he still does.

I would have said Euclid as well as they have the Record type grease ports and the decent rubber coated QR skewers which points to top of the range mountain (road don't have the rubber covers as far as I remember).
Can't see anything missing from the freewheel section, looks the same as the Olympus ones I had recently.
Campyoldy.com often has 'Alpine' range freewheels to fit these if you wanted to keep with the retro thing going (I think they have a 14-28 in stock from Regina)

EDIT:

Forgot to say, check the width as they may be 130mm rather than 135mm if they are earlier Euclid, that would mean 7 speed not eight and may pose a problem fitting them on to a bonded frame as I would assume the joints are not areas you want to stress too much by flexing them

I'd say Euclid also. With rubber coated levers, grease port on front and freewheel-fitting, there aren't any alternatives as far as I'm aware.

Thanks very much indeed, Gents, for all this information. It has definitely given me something to work-on.

I LOVE Retrobike and all it's contributors :D

This forum makes me smile too. . .
Ditto Euclid if MTB. Maybe Chorus if 126mm or 130. . .? IIRC, record was the only one to get a fluted drive side spacer, rather than the plain steel one shown, so all the info suggests 'one from top' (if it was road). That sound right to you guys?
Nice to see some campag gear getting the recognition it deserves. .
