I think my trusty Canon power shot A430 has finally thrown in the towel.
But before it hits the bin I thought I'd as the Retrobike massive if anyone knows how to fix it.

It takes ok pics when in the house (low light) but out side well you can see the results.

Thanks in advance kaya

Here's what it dose when you take a pic in day light...

The fault might be explainable and fixable, but the question is often; is it worth it given the cost of repair.

As it is, I purchase dead Powershot S50's off fleabay to make into functioning cameras as I do like the Powershot S70 and below range of cameras, even though my DSLR stuff is Nikon.

I was more wondering if it was an easy DIY fix, as I can't complain about the camera it has put in some excellent service.

cheers kaya

At a guess I would suspect the light metering circuitry or the CCD itself, where I understand CCD errors have been reported as common on this model, but usually they fail with the warranty period, so for one to hang on this long indicates the fault might be elsewhere, even the programming

But reading around some say electronic faults can sometimes be cleared by updating the firmware, so, it's worth a shot as it is simple to do and free. Others have even cleared faults by downgrading the firmware.

But a place to start looking for answers is ;

But to give an example of what knowledge there is around via the above website, looking at your reported fault, there is something similar already reported with a possible solution ;

As places like the above was where I first started to learn to repair the S series of power shots and a few other makes, ones worth bothering with like the Ricoh R series, beautiful little cameras, especially the R5.

( edited to add, if it is a ccd failure, contact canon anyway even out of warranty, as some it appears are being repaired)
