My father was the best commercial restorer. He had a perfect brace of 1935 Leyland Beavers and a 1931 Morris Commercial when i was a young lad. They won every show they were entered in. Lovely old machines but took years to restore.

Fantastic!

I have found myself hovering more and more around old trucks and buses In the last few years. I'm 43 now, so it's not as bad for me to hang around with the brown ale and pipe smoking old boys these days. :D

I did a quick Google search and found a pic of Father's old Leyland. It's still out there- repainted blue now which is a shame as it took him 2 years to paint it back in 78. Each coat was hand brushed a flatted back- over 20 coats of coach enamel in the end and the signwriting was done with real gold leaf sheet.

This was taken in 1979 at the London to Brighton Commercial run where it won 6 trophies first time out including best of show. I have the cover of Commercial Motor magazine in the loft somewhere with Prince Michael of Kent handing over a huge Trophy. He drove it all the way there and back from Yorkshire too- its top speed was 32mph

Cool truck. I can still remember the smell of the cab, a mixture of wood, varnish, burning oil and Father's Woodbines.

I want a big old tanker!
