Ok folks,

I have nearly completed my parts list and have found a company that will powder coat my frame. It has been stripped to the bare metal as the paint was in rag order and had a few rust spots. Only question is....what colour to have done! Any suggestions??

Cheers!!

Nick

Or go choose something different, I did with my 2nd C16R Build, its a Grey but with a slight metallic sparkle, cant really see unless its in the flesh but different to the standard Grey/Silver :) But i did have a Retro/Modern Theme i was going for, my 1st C16R was kept pretty much standard with original paintwork.

Powder coating

My original plan what's to go black with the orange decals but after looking through jussas gallery I'm all confused!! Soooooo many choices sooo little time! The cost may sway me though as it will be cheaper if I wait till they are coating something in the same colour. What colour/effect is the first picture Jussa? Its lurverly!

Sorry to throw a cat amongst the pigeons ;) The first one is the Original Silver Colour, no respray on that baby, its a very bright Silver. The second one is more an Industrial Silver, Looks Grey in some light then almost pearlesant is others best part about it is that it cost me £45 for the Frame, Forks and Stem to be done. It pays to support local companies, also it happened to be a colour they had in use so no special order was required, that can sometimes bump up cost for powder coating. It's also funny that if you read my build thread, i actually started from the wheels up, and that dictated my theme throughout. My first one was pretty much standard, just new decals and change from STX-RC to XT739 parts, some black detailing and there it was :)

i've got a plan. I want to do it myself but i really don't know when i'd end up with another orange in the shed.

I want to take the classic orange / white fade & turn it into a negative. (as pictured here on a clockwork frame only pic grabbed from here, possibly brocklanders but not certain) a quick decal change to the c16 ones & it would be a true negative to a clockwork!

Interesting idea, I think that would work really well, Sometimes its doesn't hurt to think outside the box, don't get me wrong, i love to look at the 'Box Fresh' Retro Builds, but then I love new ideas along the same Retro theme, breaths new life into the bikes and builds, its also dependant on what group set, wheels etc. you are using, and budget dependant as we all know. My Retro-Modern C16R build cost me less than £200 which aint bad going when you include the £45 for the Powder Coating.

I thought this would look awesome with a full black lx groupo, rc 35's up front & black syncros stem with a bar sprayed to match the blue of the frame.

the build is sitting in my head, unfortunately i don't have the time, money or frame to do the build with!

well this is what i have so far. (see Pics) its not a bike for the purists (yet) but i want it to be a usable work in progress. Its a 97 frame i think with a Orange sk8 stem, Hot rod bars, Orange seat post with original clamp and a set of Pace RC-35 forks en route thanks to Dossa. The Crank set is a Truvativ that i re-cycled from my old hard tail and i have a set of Alex rims to use until i can find and afford another set. I like all the ideas thrown in so far and now im totally scuppered lol

I may leave it to the powder coaters and just let them cover it in the next colour they use

Liking the idea of Powdercoat Roulette ;) sounds like you got some good parts to get your build going :) what ever you do, build it for you, we can all offer advice but it's your ride :) enjoy it, I'm taking mine on its first Retrobike ride this Saturday, it will be lined up with the purists, And boutique rides I'm sure, but you know what, I bet I have the same fun and big smile on my face :)
