And I am looking to get some levers, found these BL-M511's:-

Any reason why this combination of breaks and levers wouldn't work or is a good choice?

No prob :D

All v's go with all V levers

Lovely brakes the old LX ,they work fab with the XT levers ,very positive feel 8)

Functionally yes, it just depends whether looks matter to you. You should be able to find matching LX levers on eBay, and they would cost less than those modern Deore, work the same and look right.

I think I am going to do that! I impulse purchased those Deore ones, but they come with cables, so think I am going to sell them and keep the cables and buy a set of LX levers as the cables should work with LX levers as well? Sounds like a really hard way of doing things and yes it is

I am a maintenance mechanic and i have just sold a set of them levers and i must say, having owned a set for numerous years, they are indestructable. Just a tip, it is difficult to have a clash of levers and callipers as they run off the inner cable. A set of Boxed CNC levers would look fab!

LX levers may require slightly longer cables than other levers - i know i had to cut my cables down when i went from LX to Avid.

These are the matching levers, from 1997 I think. They sold like hot cakes BITD, LX M600 Vs and levers was THE upgrade for pre-V bikes.
