Buying a whole bike to get one part

Just bought a whole bike just to get the Pace RC30 forks, the rest of the bike I have absolutely no interest in and will break it down to either resell or re-use, it cost me £200 plus postage, I'll be happy if I recoup +/- £100 from the rest of it, it's a short steerer but I have a longer one ready to go.

What's the most you spent on a bike in order to get one particular component?

I bought a Marin last year as I wanted the Pace RC-50 front hub that I spied was randomly fitted. I think I only paid about £60 for the bike and it came with a free Apollo BSO. Mind you karma got me back as I rolled both bikes back to the car in the pitch black and ran straight through some dog sh*t without noticing. I only found out when I removed the wheel and put my hand in it.

I'd be interested in the outer chainring but, iirc, it has a tooth missing?

Not sure what the most I have spent is but have certainly bought bikes for one part, replaced it then sold the bike on for the original price gaining me free goodies. It's usually been on badly listed bargains so the next owner gets a good deal too.

I bought a 30gbp bike from the tip for a Mavic bottom bracket, also came with a Dura-ace rear mech which I sold for as much as the bike cost me.. ;)

I recently paid £30 for a whole bike just to nick the amberwall tyres from it.

Karma got me back though, because when I deflated the tyres to remove them they cracked and crumbled before my eyes.
I decided thet weren't safe to use after all

Leaving me with a worthless BSO with no tyres...

Pointless... 🙄
