bullseye hubs

hi all

I got a problem, so lets see if anyone can help.

My hubs are fitted with 7 speed and 130 axle.

I would like to convert this to 8 speed with a 135 axle.

Anyone know who can or if a kit can be bought to convert.

Would love these hubs back on my bike.

Thanks all.

Hi and welcome.

Bullseyes use washers a spacers. You might have some on the axle already.

Ive got some somewhere if you get stuck.

thanks jonrock, but its the axle that need to be 5mm longer in order for the hub to fit into the dropouts correctly.
just moving the spacers wont allow that to happen.

Buy a longer axle and add the washers. HTH.

Carl.

Bullseye use sealed bearings so I wouldn't use a cup and cone axle. Something like this is the ideal:

You could cheat though and get a smaller locking washer on the non drive, put a few extra washer on the drive side and maintain the 130mm length (you don't mention changing your frame to something newer yet you are moving from 130 to 135 which could cause a bit of strain fits not a 135 frame). You would have to redish the wheel though.

Thanks pete
spotted that today and in communication with the seller.
I will be putting the wheel in a cannondale cad3 frame with 135mm spacing.
thought I might have gotten away with redishing for 5mm or will it be best to do it anyway.

You may still have to put more washers on the drive side and use a smaller one on the non drive (or saw a few mm off the existing one), even with that 135mm axle as 8 speed freewheels are wider than 7 speeds and can potentially foul the inside of the dropout (especially when the chain is on). Never simple, eh!
