Bullet Bro's Chain tensioner

I just got one cheap off Ebay after remembering having one on a bike when I was a teenager. :D What are the opinions on them in this day & age? I am planning on sanding this one down though and painting black to match my bike (it's currently a dark blue)

I do remember my old one had two springs, and it looks like this one has just the "beefy" spring for maximum effectiveness.

Edit: its like this one, only blue. :D

I didn't think they were much good back then and my opinion hasn't really changed. Although they do look the part on a retro DH build.

This is so strange. Only an hour or two ago, i was going through an old toolbox and i found the "light" spring for the Bullet Brothers chain tensioner i used in 1998. They do work with strong springs fitted.

I have the same dilemma on whether to DCD or not on my LTS...

I reckon yes! Proper retro bits applied as they were. We all rode with DCDs, Bullet bros, as well as cog hogs, rollamajigs etc.

As with a lot of retro parts, it didn't really matter how well they worked, but how good they looked. A perfect example would be pro shift mechs (though I personally think they don't look that great, but as I've never owned one, I can only recycle comments about how they work, which to my knowledge was not as good as shimano or suntour).

I've got a black one fitted to my amplifier just for kicks, not too fussed if it works or not.
