Hiya I'm after some informed opinions on potential builds. I'm more MTB or urban than anything else, road hasn't appealed but bought some bits after enjoying commuting. I was enjoying my single speed Genesis day One cromo till I had an RTA on it last year. I'd just got everything i need to build the Paul Milnes with mudguards as a commuter with gears the same week I had the collision! I don't commute by bike now so not built either bike, if and when I do it will be just for leisure so Interested in your opinions.

The Paul Milnes is a NOS Tourer i think build out of Columbus Zonal Alloy, superlight at around 3.5 lbs, though the cromo forks are quite heavy and 1 inch steerer though which is odd. I'm quite tall so I'll be using a few headset spacers.

ignore the mess when I had free reign of the house!

The parts available are the same for either build with the exception of good old cantilever brakes and aheadset on the Tourer:
Shimano new wheels, used 8 x2 brifters, Tiagra Twin crankset (have a FSA Gossamer triple too), Tiagra mech, sram cassette (12-28 or 12-26) , compact-ish brushed alloy drop bars (not Fleegles), 35, 32, or 28mm tyres

The Peugeot Comp 500 is a nice thing in Columbus steel matching steel forks and a taller headtube (58cm) and a nice polished quill stem and turbo saddle for it

Re:

I think subliminally you already knew the answer as you wrote about the Peugeot frame in a much more positive way  :D

Hmm, if it's mudguards and all weather I'd favour the Milnes. You would appear even to have space for some cross tyres without the guards which would be fun...

Oh yeah :D ,
but i was thinking about wider tyres and cantilevers too, but you might have inspired me to put the PM up for sale now.

:D yep, see it's not simple is it!?! The Day One will get another outing with cross tyres and poss compact drop bars too at sme point soon. Or sell all and buy a Croix/Equilibrium!
