Old School Hero
Hey all,

Looking to finally sell my Chrome LTS DS. Note that this is big for an 18in frame, I'm 6 ft tall and it's comfortable; you could proabably get away with riding it being a few inches shorter - but not a lot.

I bought this from daj, a fellow retrobiker, a few years ago, I have only really ridden this in anger a handful of times! I had a Zaskar for my daily hack & this has simply been stashed away as my little project. I went out and did a few miles on it today, & there's no squeaks or play in the rear triangle & it rides nicely, frame could do with a good polish, but with no dinks, rust or gouges. The DS was GT's 'Dual-Sport' which I expect nowadays we'd call an All-Mountain or Trail bike, not too painful on the uphill & a lot of fun on the way down.

The purists might complain, since I replaced some parts - but I wanted it to be a solid rideable classic ;) the old wallowing Judy XL's were taken off & some Magura shocks went on, this sharpened the front end a great deal, dual arch design works well. At the time I also had the front hub replaced & disc brake replaced on a new Avid setup with 165mm rotor, and had the front wheel rebuilt. I have a bag of old parts & manuals, including original hub & disc brake parts, unfortunately the Judy XLs went walkabouts.

The old seatpost had it, so was replaced with a nice new black Bontrager item, the old wildgrippers were perished, so again, got some new Bontrager LT3's (which still have the little rubber nobbles on them). I also got some nice big (& expensive) flatties. I love these pedals! Even if you do risk losing most of the skin on your shins using them.

Original spec parts as follows:

Rock Shox Super Deluxe rear shock
XT Groupset, shifters, & rear V-brake + XTR rear mech
KORE Aheadlite 3 stem
SDG Seat (looking a bit tired now)
Azonic bars
Original GT grips in great condition (comfy too)
Mavic X 517 rims, eyeletted with SUP sidewalls, black nipples & spokes
XT rear hub + skewer
Wilderness Trail Bikes (WTB) 'Grease Guard' headset
WTB front skewer

Parts I replaced:

Magura Odur forks - dual arch 100mm spring forks
Shimano DX pedals
Bontrager SSR seatpost
Bontrager LT3 2.0 tyres front & rear
Avid 165mm front cable disc brake

Bad bits:

Rear mech gear cable needs replacing, it's stretched & fraying very close to the mech.

I'm looking to sell only because I need to fund a modern XC bike, as I want to start competing; as much as I'd love to rock up & take some points riding on the DS, I don't think it's gonna happen :P

Looking for offers around £500; I'm based in Tring, Hertfordshire - I'd prefer local pickup, but can organise delivery at buyer's expense
