BR-M750 , XT parrallel action v brakes setup

Retro Newbie
Just got a NOS set of these fantastic brakes , I'm trying to set them up but the rim appears a bit to wide.

I have the thinner of the two cupped washer pairs on the inside of the arm, but theres not enough room for the pad. did shimano or any other source have thinner cupped washers, or is it even possible to run without the cupped washers?

I have a feeling they foul something if you use no washers. If you get rid of the cup things you can use a few normal washers but you won't be able to adjust the toe in.

Maybe I'm missing something but unless you have super narrow forks and extra wide rims I can't see how the brakes won't fit. Without the cables attached you should have plenty of room to play with, perhaps put the springs in a different mounting hole to give better initial clearance?

Like I said, I may be missing something.

It'd be a good idea to post up some pictures.
You must be using very wide rims for them not to fit.

The rims are only 19mm wide, but the bike originally came with cantis, so I think the mounts are closer than normal, the bike also perhaps also had narrower rims as standard

I can't use the other spring holes as the parallel action brakes require the middle hole so that the land perpendicular to the rim surface

I'll get some pics after supper

When I fitted XTR V's to my Marin that previously had canti's, I had no such issues with mount spacing.... there are plenty here who have retrofited V's to their canti frames, bith recently and back in the day

Not enough rooms sounds wrong given they come all the way back and you've nit exactly got narrow rims there. We are of course talking 1998+ here ;-) but still they are based around the same spec rim boss and distances as centre pull cantis aka cantis. It would have been damn silly to have designed them otherwise.
I run modern Lx and XT v's on early 90's frames to late 90s frames with thicker than normal pads with no problems.
Some detail has been overlooked hopefully.

By not enough room what do you mean given they swing backwards and forwards. The only time it has been for me a problem is getting tyres past them.

One min.
You should be fitting and aligning them with the pads in. Not trying to put them in after.
The gap for fitting the pad should be towards the rear of the bike just incase.

Instructions are probably still on Shimano website

Here are two pictures of the brakes relaxed and pressed against the rim. The rim is running central through the forks and both brake arms are the the same angle when applied

I think I might have a solution though, Avid disc calipers come with similar cupped shims but look a mm or two thinner, so I'll get a hold of some of them and see how that works

Are they cyclocross forks/rims, tyre look narrow and the room either side isn't a lot and you are very low on the brake pad vertical. (it could just be the pictures)

Fibrax make a spacerless one I think, but not sure which side or if it's built in as such.

I don't know them very well as they are modern for the section you are posting in (sometime in 2000+ I think)

I cannot remember the MTB brake boss spacing spec, but you should be able to search for it.
