Bottom bracket sizes?

Forgive me but BB's have always been a bit of a no go area for me and I need a bit of help on sizes.

Getting a killer v2000 1993/94 and know that it is a 73mm but wondered if there is a standard spindle size given I will be putting on LX cranks (1993).

I have been told that 113mm should be right but would rather ask you guys before buying one.

Also I believe that the bike needs facing? Will I be able to tell this when I get it or would you recommend fitting the BB and going from there?

MY 1993 GT Karakoram with the black '93 LX cranks had a 118mm axle, 73mm shell. It was not so easy to get hold of.

You should not need to face anything.

Have found this shop on e-bay which seems to have a stash of BB's if you ever need a replacement

Gazz you should only need to face the bottom bracket when using the new modern ones like on your clockwork.

There is a method of working out what size you need, do you have any old ones about ?

Sheldon Brown has the '93 listed as 113 to 118 mm.
Pick the longer size if you think the shorter one will result in the cranks fouling the stays.

was going to singlespeed it so think I should be ok with 113mm.
