Hello

I am stuck again, there is a set of cranks that I wish to buy, but it tell me the cranks suit ideally with 'square taper bottom bracket 113mm' I have a 1991 Kona Lavadome and wondered if cranks and bottom bracket will fit it? I have measure the bike's B/B today, the length of the tube is 700mm and the opening from inside one end to end is 135mm, I am stuck on this, mostly the B/B details, please help!

I am at the crossroads about about the gears, dunno to go for gears on rear cassette or single speed, most people say single speed is fun but this bike is aimed for cycling on the roads as I have Cannondale MTB for off road. When the project is finished with the Kona, I will be riding alot on the roads when the weather get better, so... what do you reckon?

Any help will be greatly appricated especially the B/B, thanks

all konas use a 68mm shell, english threaded BB

this is the most common type.

the axle length varies depending on the cranks, 68 shell, 113 axle is a very common square taper size.

I'm a relatively recent convert to singlespeed. Give it a go - you can always add gears later. If you're going on the road - even less need for gears anyway! Try any combination of teeth that gives you an approximate 3:1 ratio e.g. 45 teeth at front 15 at back, 48:16 etc.

Shimano Mountain Bike Crankset.
Square Taper BB fitment (Ideally suited to a 113mm bottom bracket).
Crank length - 170mm.
CNC Machined alloy spider.
Suits 4 bolt chainrings (104bcd).
Can be used with a single, two or three ring setup.
Colour - Satin Silver (as pic).

These is the cranks I wish to buy.

Guy, I have to say I don't like the look of those cranks for a classic Dome anyway, but quite apart from anything else 170mm crank arms are for people with short legs - say up to 5-4 or so. The standard length is 175mm and it does make a difference. If anything, somebody with a size 20 bike should be thinking about 180mm, especially if single-speeding is a possibility. It's just that 180s are quite hard to find secondhand that's all, and quite expensive new, but I certainly wouldn't advise you to buy 170s.

the only cool 4 arm crankset. i've just got done attacking a set with a can of brasso. results were excellent.
