picked up a burley bee trailer this weekend. it attaches to a bracket on the quick release with a simple safety strap on the chainstay. because it was first to hand, i stuck it on my spesh fsr.

as i'm scooting around with the kids in the back, i start to think if this is going to damage my bike - the pressure on the pivots etc.

anyone got any thoughts?

Quite impressed it fits on an FSR... I'd check that the bracket isn't impeding the action of the rear pivot, assuming that it's the same big plastic wedge thing that my Burley uses.

I used a Burley Solo for a few years and it did take a large amount of paint off the chainstay and seatstay, but that was it. Given the amount of paint missing from other parts of the bike I wasn't too upset!

I used a Bee for 3 years and apart from a few paint scuffs there was nothing else. Mine was a 1990 Marin with thin seatstays.

i use a trailer on the back of my 2009 stumpjumper, no damage from use, i did crash on wet tarmac a while back, lost the front end  trailer stayed upright with little stubbsy and saved a lot of damage to the bike only scuffing one bar end

also a good work out dragging the kids out into the mud and rain

stubbsy :D

thanks fellas

the bracket is an aluminium one that goes behind the QR on the rear wheel

heartening to hear it's not too stressful on the frame

stubbsy - that sounds really scary. What trailer were you using?

i am using an IN-STEP double trailer, it mounts to the rear drop out via a bracket and has a large metal spring to articulat the trailer, its got a steel frame and has a low c of g so very little chance of a roll over  , mind you little stubbsy does bounce very well

the only thing that was damaged was my bar end and a big hole in my knee

stubbsy :D
