keen to get peoples thoughts on the above.

I currently use a pair of Geax Streetrunners (26 x 1.6)

But would like something narrower & faster

Any suggestions?

In my limited experience

Tioga city slickers were cheap and cheerful
Conti top tourers were fantastic, rolled well and NEVER p'd
Spesh armadillo were awful, slippy and lifeless

If I was to fit another set I reckon I would try conti gatorskins.

I used Conti Sport Contact - good, but a little slippy in the wet when new, and the old trusty Tiogas - did 5k miles on one!

The best I've found are Hutchison Top slick 1.2. They seem to always go for a discount too.

I really rate Paselas as a good, tough, versatile road tyre in 26 x 1.25". They seem to have changed the tread since I bought my last pair though, so I can't vouch for the newer ones.

The Hutchinsons I found a bit fragile in 1", and a bit draggy in 1.2". Conti GPs are quick, but maybe a bit on the narrow side for my weight.

Michelin XC-R Road look decent for something a touch plumper (1.4") but still lightweight. Schwalbe Kojak also looks like one to try:

I use Nokia City Runners in 1.5" flavour on my 'Dale.....don't think they make them any more but they are quiet and fast semi slick/commutery things.

I found the Conti GP horribly harsh in 1" - probably to thin for the 18mm wheel rim.

I've an barely used set for £12 if you want them.

Hmm. Running mine on 17mm rims (they recommend using no wider actually) and they aren't a bad ride. That said most of the riding round here is on pretty good surfaces.

Check Schwabe they have some fast rolling light tyres. They do a gumwall in the city jet tyre in 1.5 and 1.7 I think.
