Belt driven lovelyness......

bet thats nice and silent to ride,id be afraid to leave it anywhere though as you can bet youd come back to a cut belt

like the idea though

There's been some posts on forums about the tension required for the belt. Apart from being difficult to adjust due to the high tension, there seems to be a question over the load on the hub bearings as a result. Most independants seem to be spec'ing King hubs as a solution

Orange seem to be the closest mainstream manufacturer to a belt driven bike with this prototype P7.. Belt tension is an issue, and the frame has to split at the back as the belt cannot be.

The most well known manufacturer to use belt drive in the UK was EPX. My boss has two of them with Sachs hub gears. I'll see if I can get a pic.

had a ride on the P7 with belt drive last year at biketreks. was very strange. silent (almost) and it seems/feels like it picks up quicker??
hope they dont bring it out for 09.............. cant afford another bike?? lol

Issue right now is the longevity of the rear cog...mucho debris introduced into the cog from the belt is eating away the teeth and reducing cog life.

Add in the specific frame adjustments for the one piece belt and it is a science yet to be refined before mass production.

cheers,

rody
