Baglite - solar powered back pack with lights - any good?

I have quite a bit of experience with solar panels, I depend on mine. And I can honestly say everything that doesn't cost a huge amount of money that uses them is basically a toy.

fair comment - but these don't need to be hardcore - I guess I'm asking are they fit for purpose? Or do I refer to the answer you gave some moments ago?

I dunno, they might be poor quality but if you REALLY want to look a berk they're probably worth it.... :P

Solar panels aren't very flexible, but these are mounted on nylon straps. I'd give the connections on them a week if they're mounted on the shoulder straps of your rucsack.

To be fair, some of the little solar AA battery chargers are OK, and will charge your batteries in a couple of days, so you could use a little lightweight led lamp clipped to your pack. But really, if you want lights that are always on when you ride, there is nothing to match a hub dynamo. Shimano's newer ones are quite good, you don't notice they're there.
