Athena Syncro 2

Well that's what I think they are - the body is polished rather than the velobase version : http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx? ... 4&AbsPos=9

Regardless of what they actually are, they don't work as one of the internal parts is broken: see part bottom right.

Anyone know if and where I could obtain a replacement part?

Cheers

Well you're in luck bonny lad; I'm sad enough to have a small collection of Syncro fittings. I have a spare of this part. Drop me a PM and it's yours - for free :D .

However if you are looking to use this in Syncro, rather than friction, mode, then the bad news is that you are also missing 2 small springs that fit within the shifter : thus

I have one, but sadly not two, spare springs. You are welcome to this as well. The shifter will work in friction mode without the springs.

Perhaps someone else has a spare spring?

It would appear it could be my lucky day after all! I didn't think so earlier after the nags I got lumbered with on the National sweepstake at work!!

Cheers HW, PM incoming...

Re:

Hiya, the index springs in Syncro shifters are the same as those in the early Ergo shifters, you can get them on Ebay, mostly in the USA so shipping is expensive, such as these here -

I have used these in a pair of C Record Syncro 2 shifters and they transformed the shifting - now very precise indeed.

Hi Martin - thanks for the heads up on those. Incredible that you found them in the depths of ebay!! That was some search you must of endured. A little pricey but if it affords the use of syncro then perhaps worth pondering. I'll have a think about that one...

I did do a bit of searching, I found them and thought they looked right so ordered them to see if they would work, so a bit of an experiment really. Having used the levers with tired springs and then finally when one broke fitting new springs was a revelation, the shifters were so precise, a lovely click to them now!

Must admit there is something hugely satisfying with a crisp quick change via some C-Record DT levers - got some on my Concorde and they're tremendous. I shall ponder some more on a purchase from the US of A...
