Armstrong Bikes - Info Required

Hi all,

Picked up this gem tonight although I know nothing about the Armstrong brand or year of manufacture etc.

It was being sold by the son of a 93 year old chap who had owned it since new. Sturmey Archer 3 speed.

Can any of you give me a bit more context and hopefully pinpoint which model it is likely to be?

I plan on putting the drops back on and giving her a general clean up...

Looks early 50s to me. The Williams chainset sometimes has a date code.
I sold some Armstrong top quality frames in the mid 50s, I think they were in the Phillips works by then, with Dave Duffield as manager, frames built by Bill Gameson.

Thanks for the info with this. I've stripped it down and plan on giving it a good clean up and a T-Cut to bring the colour back (currently covered in grease, oil & general grime) and converting to fixed-wheel.

Recently cleaned off the Reynolds decal to reveal that it is definitely 531

Its good that you've made the bike useable and have kept the nice frame patina. It would have been nice if you could have used some of the original components in the rebuild. The wheels, pedals, chainset and seatpin dont really suit the frame. Good that the bikes being used again though. Enjoy it.
