Ok, I was looking for a big, steel Stumpjumper and hadn't found one. I hadn't been looking long at all but was surprised that I was having difficulty in finding one given their popularity in the UK BITD.

A member from here in the US noticed my search and offered me a bike he'd picked up for a couple of parts. It turned out to be exactly the right year (I was totally happy to be fairly loose with my original search), all for the price of postage!

It's now on it's way (and I hope I'm not counting chickens and it will be lost/damaged in transit) and I haven't even had chance to pay for postage yet! Hopefully in the not too distant future I'll have frame, fork crown, mechs, cranks, stem, seatpost, cantis, brake levers - the build is already planned out.

As excited as I am I'm overwhelmed by the generosity of the offer and feel all warm inside (not just festive cheer). I hope that I can return the favour to the guy who is sending it me or someone else soon.

Human kindness still going strong in these rotten times of greed & me me me

Tales like that are great - and what this place is all about

Which reminds me, I'm kind of looking for a Yeti Arc Ti in large ... :)

I like that about this place,

I have helped a couple of folks on here and its nice to know that they have appreciated it, and I have had a few help me too which is great .

its the retrobike way, not always a profit involved - just good to feel helpful sometimes.

I've been fortunate enough to have been given a 1992 Kona Lava Dome by my next door neighbour tonight (see Reader's Bikes section). People must be in the festive spirit!!

I agree , just been given for the cost of postage , the original forks for my Colnago MTB . :D

matt damon (no, not the actor) has 1 he'd sell for around £1200. PM me if you want his details. I know of a 17.5in yeti ti locally thats not being ridden, but that 1s not for sale ;)

I have found that everyone on here is damn kind, and extremely friendly.

Its like a different world

I have purchased and sold a few bits via the For Sale thread, and have been overwhelmed by peoples trust and kindness. Comments such as '.....yea, I'll chuck that in for free.....'

I've met 3 guys from the site (Orange71 Ed, ededwards Ed and longendale Martin) and they're all top class blokes. Friendly, and full of great knowledge and advice. Looking forward to meeting a few more at Cannock on 30th.

Most people on here are great - we all help each other out where we can.

In a year of membership I've been helped a few times, helped some people out and made some good friends too!

It's not always about profit as RBG says - lets hope it stays that way.

Oh and Ed - real pleased for you that you found your unicorn!

Always good to read these tales.. Mr Zero helped me out heaps when I was after my Shock-A-Billy and I try to keep up, and pass on, the bonhomie 8)

Love the Community feel of RB..
