MA40 were one of the go to rims so yes good quality. Looking at the decals late 80 to early 90's perhaps on the rims. Again the Mavic hubs were also very good. Nice little wheel set that that. Don't recall Mavic selling wheel sets around that time so most likely someone had them built up.

Cheers, I have had these in my spares for a while and need to see if I have a bike they fit on or move them on to clear space.

Need to check if it's French or British/(ISO)/Italian hub threadings. The latter are viewed as interchangeable in regards freewheels. the French isn't. The current freewheel may be marked to indicate threading, otherwise you will need to remove and test. Mavic (French manufacturer) made both French and British threaded hubs. Same with Maillard Freewheels. See https://www.sheldonbrown.com/freewheels.html for more info, Either way, finding larger sprocket freewheels is straight forwards, but not as freely available as they used to be.

I still have Mavic 577's in 217 rims. Only just changed the bearings after 27 years. The flanges are a problem to remove if they freeze as the alloy is very soft. Don't attempt to botch them with a pin spanner.
Get the Mavic tool or get one made. Other than that they are bomb proof, especially the mountain version.
