Hi all ; I've got a re-sprayed (rattle can black) pair of M950 cranks I want to restore to something close to original finish ; and wondered if anyone has any hints e.g. colour match? What sort of paint even? The original looks kinda satin in finish ; at least from pics that is I don't recall ever seeing a set in the metal as it were. Cheers for any help!

Many people do strip the paint and polish the arms. That's the cheapest method. Matching the paint would be tricky but possible, the thing is (in my opinion) it wouldn't be wroth it. There are so many of those cranks out there it would be cheaper and less work to just buy another pair with the original paint in good condition. (unless you have a hookup with a paint-shop and are getting free paint, and feel like doing all the extra work).

Picked up a C2 the other week and it was grey, and not dissimilar to xtr grey, bit lighter maybe but near as dammit
I will say the finish is excellent on them so an original quality of finish appears to be easily achievable.

Im stripping it off with basic paint stripper .
What i have done so far shows the paint was directly on top of the black anodizing. though the surface would have had to be keyed i think :? but on alloy you shouldnt have any adherence problems.
Just down to what the paint actually is :? Industrial strength thinners didnt touch it, but paint stripper has. Dont know if that helps.
Also the brake hadnt been stripped so under the cap, inside the lever etc you could still see the black ano where the paint had missed.

Ill see if i can get a reasonable pic of some of the parts i havent stripped yet.

Take any xtr part to a spray painter and he'll get you a match
