I've sent the chap an email asking roughly where he is.
What's the score with eBay auctions - if I PayPal him the money, surely he can't release them to a thrid party? Or do I PayPal the chap collecting for me the £ and he pays cash?

NO, cash on collection, That way your securing it. If it goes paypal, you've got a whole dispute thing... unless he's a reputable eBayer... it's upto you really.. I'd always go cash on collection personally, but.
if mikeekim can't do it i could but it is a 120 mile round trip so i'd need some fuel money! happy to do it as there is an awesome pizza place near sheffield!
i'd also prefer you to pay the seller direct and let him know you'd be sending me.

it's called bibby's and it is in dinnington. my mate used to live in anston (cant remember if it was north or south but it was the posh end!)
we used to go to bibby's all the time.
unless you like salt avoid the burgers.
oh and he salts the chips unless you tell him not to.
his pizzas are to die for. propper stone baked. go for the thin ones
no delivery though.
oh and its a take away.
