I was thinking that but my '94 Axis doesn't have ritchey dropouts and the cable stops are on the top not the side, other than that though very similar.

I had a DBR Axis, famously bought for about 7 quid from the Bay, but that didn't have the Ritchey drop outs either.
Can't remember the top tube routing though, but I did wonder if it was a Diamondback

I used to have a merlin that looked exactly like that, tange prestige tubing, either painted in champagne or in a natural finish.

Lancs Merlin nickel plated frame by the looks of it (although there were hundreds of shops rebranding them as theirs at the time (handsome dog, popcorn blizzard/heffs or what ever they were called). Good quality, solidly built far east frame.
