Chap im buying some Bubinga off and i got to talking about this and that project wise.Im doing a cabinet in carver construction and He supplies cedar for small boats so he sent me some pics of a canoe being built by a carpenter/canoeist he knows.

Pretty special 8)

The finish will be a layer of woven glass-fibre cloth with epoxy resin on the inside and outside of canoe. It's durable and water-proof, unlike varnish which isn't very wear resistant.

I thought it looked like epoxy resin... but then I wondered whether there might be issues down the line with water penetrating damaged areas (sharp rocks underneath leading to cracks etc) and being trapped in there under the resin layer?

I'm not a canoeist but like smallish boats of all sorts (especially wooden ones) and have patched up a few so always interested in techniques...
