That's 57cm centre-to-top buddy. It's a compact frame with loads of seat tube. It is way less than 54cm centre-to-centre.

What is even worse is that Dynamo was built as a one-off for the owner by Steve Wade and pre-dates the production Dynamos...it is possibly the first road bike ever built by Orange. The owner's name is even stamped into the BB shell with the frame number.

And I am looking at the bike in the flesh right now...

so you got one in the end then!!! :D

i have to admit, i thought it looked very bob jackson or cougar-ish, i wondered if they had made it for orange, looks very nice though and what a price! if it is defo made by orange themselves that makes it even more cool. 8)

I did! Took a while, and when I saw the bike I didn't even get excited as I assumed it would fetch mega-money. I couldn't believe I won it for fifty one quid - the seller said there was a fair bit of interest in it too.

I know what you mean about the look of the frame - I'm going to mail Orange to see what I can find out about it. Some elements of it seem very un-Orange, like the lugged BB and forks, but others seem very Orange indeed - I think the top tube slope and long seat tube were unusual for the time. I didn't know about the bike's history until it arrived and I asked the seller for a bit more info.

I wanted to have it painted in orange-white fade but I'm definitely leaving it as it is. Apparently Steve Wade's girlfriend even had a hand in the decision to paint it black. The word "happy" doesn't quite sum up my feelings toward the bike.

the lugs etc can be standard frame builder parts used by several frame builders hence the similarity, the bb shell looks just like my cougar, the chrome is the same style aswel. but orange have a good relationship with bob which is why i thought of that, the fork looks like one that cougar offered from about 93/94 which if it is as old as you say would sort of make sense. if the paint is in good nick i'd leave it though, if not i'd get it done exactly the same, the clockwork paint would be cool but maybe not quite right for it i think.

either way its cucumber!! 8)

It has recently been re-finished by Orange after a repair made to the BB, so I'd be mental to interfere with it.

Thanks for all the happy thoughts! I am stupidly happy with it. I've ordered a Syncros road stem and post for it and a set of v.nice brake levers. Not sure about the rest yet but I am gagging to get it on the road.

.

Interesting to compare with my custom 753 Formula...
