Another Explosif

Could be a nice bike though, 2003, True Temper OX Platinum frame, size 18.

I often find all my allies are a bit lightweight too, just when I need them....

Which late model Explosif was the lardy one? This one?
No, the 2002 and 2003 Explosifs had butted stays, and were actually lighter than the 98/99 853 Explosifs (but heavier than pre-98 ones). But the 2004 True Temper and subsequent Dedacciai frames have had plain-gauge stays and convertible dropouts which have combined to bump the weight up from 4.4 to 4.8.

Which year was the Scandium one?
Know it only had a years warranty. but liked it a lot
2000 and 2001, very rare, the one sold recently was the first on eBay in recent times AFIAA

Couldn't be doing with the scandium one. Was pleased when they realised the Explosif should be steel and went back to it.

Depends what you mean by best I suppose. My take is that the 853 ones are generally considered the most desirable, but this is more to do with the image of 853 than the individual qualities of the 853 Explosifs compared to other Explosifs. AFAIK the Columbus Explosifs were the lightest (excluding the Scandium ones of course), the 853s were built a little more burly which is good or unnecessary depending on your point of view.

Think they are all good frames and would love any or all of them. Have a bit of a soft spot for the Tange Ultimate ones myself, primarily because the fluted downtube looks cool!

Edit: Anthony, do you reckon the Scandium ones are rare because they were unsuccessful at the time, or because they've all snapped? :?
