A few short months ago when I joined this site and had a life, I remember writing how XTR was for primos and people with too much money. How astonished am I to find that I have just bought an XTR front mech???

Of course, I could pretend that it is the only retro mech I have found in the correct size, but I am a little excited about having some top kit. Not sure how it will go with the DX theme I have going on for the 'Zone, but who cares.

Now then, it was a splendid frame in its time, I wonder if M900 would work...

I'm with you on this.. I've had soo many bikes in my time but never any XTR kit, for the reason that I always considered XT to be so good that I could never see the point... until I got hold of some, a m950 rear mech and chainset to be exact.. now I want the rest of the groupset... arghh!!

I've bought XTR as long as i can remember cos i'm a tart. But I have to say, I always thought with f.mechs it wouldn't make any difference, but I have to say XTR (M950 onwards definately) make a ker-clunk thunk of a difference on down shifts.

M900 is the king of groupsets! Its super sweet, pretty light and nice to the touch. I'm putting XC Pro on the PACE and the Bianchi had to be all Italian so has Campy but everything else just has to be M900- go on, that Ozone deserves it

Hmmm, trouble is you might be right! Especially as the Devolution has just turned up from Aspire and looks lovely - why spend that much on a chuffing headset and not go M900???

(Hmmm, I am not convinced the headset is the right size - looks like 1 1/4 to me - there is an awful lot of space around a 1 1/8 steerer. Checking with Aspire...)

M900 Never really saw the point as M730 XT was essentially the same if you did the 8-speed upgrade. And you couldn't get it with thumbshifters.

M950 was a revolution in MTB kit, which outperformed anything available at the time. It was a while till XT caught up.

M960... Never rattled my cage. Can't explain why.

M970. Another revolution but M770 XT is more "me".
